Hamilton Archers is a non-profit organization dedicated to lowering
the deer population on the North Fork to a safe and sustainable
level for people, deer and the environment.
The North Fork of Long Island has a serious overpopulation of deer. Currently there are roughly 50–60 deer per square mile
while a healthy, safe and sustainable population would be 10-12 deer per square mile. This overpopulation problem has reached a dangerous level for humans in terms of tick borne diseases and deer/car collisions. In addition, the deer overpopulation has devastated the forest understory and caused many other species such as native bird and butterfly populations to decrease to alarming levels.
